Going to have to look around for the equivalent communities around here.

“Did you remember to bring the food?”

“Of course I did.  Do you have any other stupid questions to ask?”

“It wasn’t a stupid question! I was just making sure we don’t have to sneak back into the compound to get anything we forgot.”

“Just go find wood for the bonfire.  I’ll start the food…”

I’ll start the food.  There’s no way I’m letting either of you cook anything, especially not if I want to be able to eat it.  You go help her find wood.”

“He’s right.  You don’t have to be so catty about everything, you know.”

“Catty?  Was that you trying to be funny?” Their voices faded away into familiar bickering as the man and woman walked off.

This story got into my head earlier this week and wouldn’t let go until I got it written down.  My first Gintama fanfic and it’s about one of the antagonists for some reason.  I knew I preferred to write about non-main characters but this did surprise me somewhat.

Title: Silence
Author: Rhyssa Fireheart
Pairings: Implied Oboro/OC

Characters: Oboro, Utsuro (mentioned), Naraku, OC
Fandom: Gintama

I.

One of his oldest memories (after being saved by Utsuro-sama) was of feather soft touches and barely there whispers.  When he was first introduced to the other students of the Tenshouin Naruku school, he hadn’t noticed her at first.  She stayed in the background and it was only when her name was said that he first felt a fleeting touch on his back and she appeared before him, bowing a greeting.

He was surprised to see a girl at the school; weren’t they going to be trained to be assassins?  Why would a girl be there?  Years later, if he bothered to think back, he would realize how naïve he’d been.  Right then though, he did as his teacher told him and observed.  She wasn’t exactly tiny, but then again, they were only kids.  Her black hair was cut short and from what he could tell, she had dark eyes.  Her skin was tanned, so probably taken from a rural village somewhere.

Even then, he noticed how quiet she was.  Despite the seriousness of what they were to be trained for, the other students were noisy and acted like normal children should.  She seemed wrapped in silence standing there, her voice low and barely heard over the other conversations.

He also noticed her studying him in return.

December 2nd can't get here soon enough!

I need to start really working my way through the episodes though.  I'm only on 210 now, which is starting the Kabukicho Four Devas arc.  So hyped to see this entire arc animated though.

I guess if I can't find enough fanfic for my current obsession (Gintama) featuring the characters I want, I'm going to have to write the stories myself.

It's my own damn fault for loving side and secondary characters so much.

And I still have to keep working on the follow-up to my Naruto fic "Broken" so that will get finished eventually.  I have three "chapters" done already and the rest of the story is in my head, just need to get that translated to text.  *sigh*

Why does it have to be so easy to write these stories in my head and so hard to get them into text so others can read them, too?

Originally posted in June over on Fanfiction.net (which is where I archive almost all my stories - gaming related ones aren't there).  I could have sworn I'd posted this here to my journal but I can't find it if I did, lol!  I do have some follow stories in my head, just need to take the time to write them down.

Shinobi don’t fall out of trees. They receive rigorous training in chakra control in order to stick to the sides of objects (such as trees) or run across water or even to move quickly in short bursts, making it seem as if they can disappear. So why was she lying on her back gasping for breath, sprawled in the grass with a large root digging into her back? Not that it mattered, she couldn’t have fallen, obviously, because shinobi aren’t supposed to fall, at least not after they’ve graduated and become genin and chuunin and especially not once they’ve reached the rank of jounin.

Dragging herself to her feet, she tried straightening up, gasping at the line of fiery pain down the left side of her back. Something was wrong back there; something beyond simple bruising caused by a not-fall from the trees, but now wasn’t the time to worry about that. Right now she needed to get moving again, get back up in the trees she hadn’t fallen out of and keep going.

Forcing her body to keep moving, she jumped back up into the branches of the tree. Pausing to rub eyes gritty from dust and lack of sleep, she leapt to the next branch and then another, the uncertainty of her steps fading after several more jumps. There was still a long way to go before she arrived at her destination. Not that it mattered; nothing anyone could do would help the dead.

Well now.  I guess it's time for my annual post to prove this isn't a sock puppet or abandoned account.  Or something.  Anyways, I'm back to writing fanfic, this time for my current obsession One Piece.  And older story that I'd almost finished years ago and refined and polished up the past few weeks.

The sea train pulled into the station at St. Poplar on a stormy day.  The passengers grumbled as they got out, fumbling to find umbrellas or coats to protect them from the rain.  One woman didn’t bother though; she simply limped her way up the street, pausing to notice the houses covered in…were those soap bubbles?  Shaking her head, she continued on to the hotel, not wishing to spend more time getting wet than she had to.

When he finally woke up, Rob Lucci was relieved to find himself alive and alone.  Hattori fluttered to the window sill of what appeared to be a hospital room and let out a happy series of chirps before flying off again.  He closed his eyes again, falling back asleep.

The next time he woke up, the room was filled with the other members of Cipher Pol 9 perched on stools, chairs, the window ledge (next to a returned Hattori) and even crammed into the corner, filling the room.  They’d been talking quietly amongst themselves, waiting to see that their leader was truly going to survive after all.  The doctor squeezed into the room to give Lucci a quick exam and then left, saying the patient needed to rest in bed for at least another four days and warning the others not to tire him out too much.

Time flies

Wow, I guess I never realized how long I've been on LJ.  I've been posting on some forums for longer, but this is a bit different.  Because of a post by [livejournal.com profile] glenatron about his 10 year anniversary here on LJ, I was prompted to go take a look to see when I joined.

January 22, 2007, which means it's been just over 7.5 years now. This -> http://rhyssafireheart.livejournal.com/843.html was my first post made (a rant, how not surprising for back then) although the original, "Welcome to LiveJournal" post is still there, too.  And going back through the pages, I was really active in 2007.

I should read some of those posts again, just because.
rhyssafireheart: (Tiger Tiger)
Just making a post to show I'm still alive and still on LJ, even if it's just reading my friends list.  If I have stuff to share any more, I interact on dA for art, FB for friends, and G+ for just about anything else.  I even update my own website when I remember to.

So there, I'm not some bot, I'm still alive and kicking and ... I forgot.

Sheesh, the spambots have been out in force lately.  And it's almost amusing because their posts are nothing but html links that don't work.  Still, sucks that they are posting anonymously since that means there's no account to ban or delete.  Just wish I knew why I'd been turned into a favorite target recently.

Theme hell

Egads!

I've been somewhat bored with the theme on my journal here and finally decided to update/pick a new one.  And there are a ton of themes to choose from even for a freebie account.  But good gods, some of those layouts/colors/designs are so.... hideous.  I mean really, flat out, who the hell thought those colors looked okay together bad.  And the thing is, most of those are simply variations on a basic layout and someone (who thought they were a designer) simply came up with a ton of color variations and voila!  Instant theme!

I rather like the one I've switched to (Kite in the Clouds or something like that) even though I don't usually use art I haven't created myself.  The old theme (Randomness) was nice but I'm tired of grey and not having a date tag on the posts.
rhyssafireheart: (Default)
So I've not done much art recently, just not been in the mood nor have I had the time. I've been really limiting my time sitting at the computer in the evenings since I had surgery back in mid-October and that's one of the area's that had to give.

Only pieces I've done have been for contests over on the One Manga Forums, one for the manga coloring contest (theme = romance) and one for the WSAC #196 (theme = Touhou). So without further ado, here are my entries:

So, finally did a page for the manga page coloring contest over on One Manga. It's the cover page for chapter 120 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle by Clamp, but as I don't read that series, I have no idea who the character is nor what her actual colors are.  I just went with what I liked.

I suck.

Okay, maybe that's a bit much, but some days I really do think I suck at drawing.  I simply don't practice often enough to get my skills up to where I can execute all the stuff in my head.  At least not my traditional drawing skills.

Anyways, I've decided that I'm going to start practicing drawing more and since my fat butt is usually sitting at a computer, I'll draw digitally.  And because I realize I have issues with my dark/light contrast values, I'm going to work in monochromes.  I'll pick a color for the background, a color to draw in, and that's it.  Those are the two colors I have to work with and no more.  I can play with flow and opacity, of course, but beyond that I'm not going to gt fancy.  I haven't completely decided about using brushes - should I limit myself to one brush size period, allow different brush sizes but it's all the same brush type, or change brush types as well.

For now, here's my first attempt at a person drawn using a size 13 hard brush, black and very pale grey as my colors, and both opacity/flow set to 50%.  I still haven't decided if I was going for a male or female yet, which just adds to my suckiness.

See the pic... )

Oh yeah, an update.  In under a year.

Hrm, forgot to mention, in addition to my issues with contrast, I can't draw noses but at least the hair isn't completely horrible.

It's only been just about 13 months, so let's call this an annual update, why don't we?

First up is a manga page coloring of Haine and Naoto from the manga Dogs: Bullets & Carnage.  It's from an earlier chapter but I'm not sure what page exactly.  This was originally done for the manga coloring contest over on the One Manga Forums.

Teaser:  Haine and Naoto from Dogs: Bullets & Carnage

Next up is a fanart piece for another contest on the One Manga Forums, this time for digital art.  I messed up though and missed the due date for entering, so instead I used the extra time to actually do a decent background for once.  Character is Ino Yamanaka from Naruto.

Teaser: Ino Yamanaka - Naruto

Both teasers link to the full-size images on DeviantArt.

So we finally see Stark's release, and it's got to be one of the more unique one's out there (Why guns?  Why not!)  So I colored the excellent lines done by Hurqaline and it turned out pretty all right, if I do say so myself.

Teaser takes you to my deviantart page, because even my smaller versions are still pretty huge, and you can download the original (HUGE) size if you want over there.

So EQ2 has this pretty cool idea going on - Recruit a Friend program/promotion, which means that if you get a friend to sign up and subscribe (not just do the trial), both of you benefit. By linking your game accounts together (for this purpose only, I’m sure), anytime you and your friend(s) are grouped and you’ve mentored down, you both get an XP bonus. It’s designed to help get your friend up to speed fast, especially if you have a max level character and they are just starting out.

Well, it works. )
rhyssafireheart: (Default)
Wow, I was afraid it had been much longer than 2.5 months since I updated anything here.  Now I only feel marginally delinquent instead of horribly delinquent. *grin*

So anyways, got some fanarts, both finished this month.  Well, technically one is a fanart and one is a manga page coloring, but same thing, kind of.

Check them out! )
So enjoy the pics!

Your rainbow is strongly shaded indigo.

What is says about you: You are a proud person. You appreciate cities, technology, and other great things people have created. Friends count on you for being honest and insightful.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

Huh, interesting.  Not that I dislike the shades, mind you, but odd nonetheless.

Found over on [livejournal.com profile] drelfina 's journal.

Oh yeah, guess this means I'm still alive.

Back again with another fanart (like it matters, right?).

Teaser here:
